Abstract

Abstract Comparison Impact of using traditional methods and Objective Structured Assessment of Technical Skills (OSATS) on The effectiveness of training of practical skills and satisfaction of students in Gonabad University of medical Science in 1392 Background: Objective evaluation of clinical and professional competency is one of the most important aspects in medical students' clinical education. Objective Structured Assessment of Technical Skills (OSATS) evaluates a large spectrum of technical and basic skills in an experimental setting. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of two methods of evaluation Objective Structured Assessment of Technical Skills (OSATS) and Traditional Practical Examination (TPE) ) on The effectiveness of training of practical skills and satisfaction of students in Gonabad University of medical Science in 1392 Materials & Methods: This study is a quasi-experimental research. Forty five nursing and Medical Emergency students, who selected Principles and techniques of practical, participated in this study. TE and OSATS methods were both administered. Data were gathered via a researcher-made questionnaire and checklist after determination of its validity and reliability. Data were analyzed using SPSS software (version 20). Independent and paired t-tests were used. Results: the mean score of OSATS satisfaction was higher than TE satisfaction and this differences was statistically significant (p<001/0). Also, The mean self-assessment score and final score of the students of OSATS method was more traditional method and Paired t-test showed significant differences between the two methods of evaluation Conclusion: It is concluded that Objective Structured Assessment of Technical Skills (OSATS) can evaluate more practical skills and gain more students’ satisfaction and Increase students' scores.
