Abstract

Background : Urinary incontinence is a common health problem in women and the most common type is urinary stress incontinence. The disease has a significant impact on various aspects of life and lead to reduced quality of life for women. One way of improving health level is focusing on life quality level in individuals. So in this study the impact of family centered empowerment model on quality of life in women with stress urinary incontinence is discussed. Methods : This is a clinical trial. After sampling with convenience method, subjects (64 patients) with blocked random method allocated into experimental and control groups. Research instruments included questionnaires of demographic, questionnaire of to assess quality of life in patients with urinary incontinence, knowledge, health behaviors, self-esteem. For experimental group, family centered empowerment model based on four stages perception of threat, efficacy promotion, self-esteem and evaluation performed and quality of life of both evaluated before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed by using SPSS / V20 software and descriptive and analytical statistical tests. Results : The mean ± Std age of the participants are equal in the experimental and control groups to 43.19±8.90 and 43.91±8.49 (P= 0.742). Also there was no significant differences between demographic variables of two groups. After the intervention independent t-test showed significantly increase in the intervention group compared to control group (P<0.001) and also observed significant difference between two groups in mean scores of knowledge, self-efficacy and self-esteem (P<0.001). Conclusion : Implementation of family centered empowerment model can improve quality of life in women with stress urinary incontinence with the emphasis on patient and family participation and according to Increasing knowledge, health behaviors and self- esteem.
