Abstract

Abstract Introduction: All women around the world undergo with menopause. Social support of women in transitional period helps them to have effective coping with menopause. This study was semi-experimental in order to compare the effect of education based on Teach-Back method in controlling and testing group methods on women's self-care and health literacy in the menopausal period. Methods: This semi-experimental study was done on 2016 in Gonabad-Iran and 60 postmenopausal women were selected and randomly divided into two groups (test group and control group). The educational program was based on Teach-Back method. Four questioner was used for data gathering includes demographic questionnaire for women, menopausal health knowledge and performance assessment, health literacy questionnaire (HELIA), self-care questionnaires. The last four questionnaires were filled by participant before and one month after educational program. Educational program was conducted for intervention group in four sessions about health issues during transitional period. Control group was received no education. SPSS software version 20 was used for data analysis. P <0.05 was considered as statistical significance. Result: The results showed that there are not significant differences between two groups as demographic variables and dependent variables before intervention. The results indicated that the variance analysis was based on the knowledge level, attitudes, self-efficacy, self-care level and health literacy there was a significant difference between the test group and control group. The total score in self-care and health literacy was significantly more than the control group. Conclusion: Designing an educational program can increase Postmenopausal women’s self-care and health literacy in the menopausal period based on Teach-Back method.
