Abstract

Abstract Background: The world population is aging, the statistics show that the population over 60 years the world almost equal with the world population of children under 5 yearsold.considering the world elderly population nutritional status ,and increasing of nutritional needs in thid age.We studied Gonabad elderly nutritional status and its effective factors in this study. Method: In this descriptive study of 465 urban and rural elderly nutritional status were evaluated for their nutritional status the data were collected with questionnaire for demographic characteristics, food habits, knowledge, attitude, food frequency questionnaire. Result:The results showed that 51% of the samples used vegetables and 42.7 percent drank at least two glasses of milk daily that should be increased and 82.6% used the fried food in their diet And 97.2 % drink tea an hour before eating and generally consume a Mediterranean diet,but there are also some bad eating habits such as consumption of salt and fried foods in them was more than usual. Conclusion: Most of the samples were used a Mediterranean diet,but were at risk of malnutrition, and the level of nutrition knowledge and elderlyattitudes about cooking style was down , it is necessary that the government, medical and nutrition experts be aware on different aspects of the problem and planningsome steps to eliminate them.
