Abstract

Abstract Background and Purpose: Variouscostsassociatedwith theelderlypopulation are one of themost importantisthecostofhealth care. One of the determinants of health is social support. There is substantial evidence Shows that community support plays an important role in mental health and life satisfaction of individuals and social isolationcan leadtodisease. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between perceived social support and life satisfaction of elderly Gonabad city Methods: In this cross-sectional analytical study 310 participants were categorized according to systematic stratified method. Data were collected using interview and questionnaire including these three parts: demographic data perceived social support and life satisfaction LSI-Z.Data were analysis using SPSS software (V.20), descriptive statistics, chi-square and spearman. Results:The present study showed that the relationship between perceived social support and life satisfaction has a direct and significant(p=0/000,r=0/419).Average age was of 70/25 years with a standard deviation of 8/20. 53 percent of elderly men and 46/1 percent are female. Among the supportive resources most were to support the family and then took the lives of important people. The majorityofelderlysocial supportandsatisfaction with lifewas good. Conclusion:The results showed that the relationship between perceived social support and life satisfaction of elderly people is the direct and significant. So it is better than life satisfaction and social support strengthen by the relevant authorities and social networks. Keywords: Perceived social support, Life satisfaction, Nursing
