Abstract

Introduction: The new and unique environment by internet and web technology enables governments, businesses, educational institutions and individuals to publish different information by using this multimedia. This is known that quality of information received from the Web is very important so the purpose of this study is to investigate the Acquaintance and application of criteria for assessing the quality of data received from the web at Gonabad University of Medical Sciences. Methods and Aims: The samples of this study are all Faculty members and all the students of Gonabad University of Medical Sciences except postgraduate ones. For this purpose 12 faculty members and 235 students were selected. A five-item questionnaire based on Likert scale, was used to collect data, and the reliability and validity of this questionnaire has been determined by similar studies. Then Using SPSS software version 20 and descriptive statistics, the data was analyzed. Results: The results of this study suggest that 58.3% of the faculty are using web information. The main goals of Web search and their information seeking are specific news related to the field of research, electronic literature search and refereed academic publications. Also, 56% of students on average use of web information and The main goals of Web search and their information seeking are specific news related to the field of research, electronic literature search and search for article citations. Faculty members in the Acquaintance and application of Web Information Quality Criteria, pay more attention to relevancy, value added and True and accurate of information (91.7). Consistency and security among Faculty members get the lowest priorities from the view point of application and interest . that most of the students pay more attention to relevancy of information (59.1 %). Also value added (47.7 %) and understandability (44.7 %) are the next highest priorities. Consistency and authority among students get the lowest priorities from the view point of application and interest. Conclusion: The findings of this study showed that the Faculty members and students of Gonabad University of Medical Sciences did not notice to the most criteria for the quality of the web. They also did not pay attention to the relevance and value added and Accuracy of the information while search in the web. Faculty members pay more attention to Authority, Accessibility, Accuracy, Completeness, Believability than students.
